Balai Kota Jakarta

Balai-Kota-JakartaBalai Kota Jakarta or Jakarta City Hall is located on Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan No 8 – 9 Jakarta Pusat/Central Jakarta. This City Hall officially used at 1919. Since the City Hall office at Old Batavia moved to Jl. Tanah Abang Barat No. 35 in 1913.  This building was initially used as the residence of Burgemeester (Mayor) besides being the Jakarta government administration office. Then it completely became the City Hall office; after the official residence of the mayor was moved to Jl. Suropati No.7, Central Jakarta.

During the expansion of Batavia towards the South (Weltevreden), the government offices also moved. The City Hall office (Stadhuis) moved from Old Batavia to Jl. Tanah Abang Barat No. 35 (1913). Then in 1919, it moved to Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan No. 8-9 Central Jakarta. On 1 October 1926, the Gemeente Batavia office was changed to the Stads Gemeente Batavia office until the Japanese colonization era.

During the Japanese colonization (1942-1945), this building was the Jakarta Tokubetsusi office with the head of government called sityoo. Then during the Indonesian Independence era, the name Jakarta Tokubetsusi was changed to Jakarta National Government with the head of government called the mayor. The Jakarta National Government office was then called Balai Agung, with Suwiryo as the first mayor.

In 1961, President issued a decree concerning that change the name of Jakarta from Kotapraja Jakarta Raya to Jakarta Capital City Government, the head of government was no longer the mayor, but the Governor. Since then, the City Hall has been used as the office of the Jakarta Capital City Government.

From Cikini go to platform 1 and take the Blue Line/Red Line heading to Jakarta Kota then stop at Gondangdia Station and take a 13 minutes walk to the North

From Tanah Abang go to platform 3/5 and take Yellow Line heading to Manggarai and change to platform 3 and take the Blue Line/Red Line heading to Jakarta Kota then stop at Gondangdia Station and take a 13 minutes walk to the North

From Sudirman go to platform 2 and take the Yellow Line heading to Manggarai and change to platform 3 and take the Blue Line/Red Line heading to Jakarta Kota then stop at Gondangdia Station and take a 13 minutes walk to the North
