Hunting old money for Wedding Mahar

For some Indonesian, wedding certainly need a well preparation, especially when it comes to Mahar (an obligatory wedding gift in Indonesia). Some people the mahar is given in the form of money and the amount of money for mahar is adjusted with the wedding date. For example if the wedding date is 15 June 2013 the mahar would be 15.062.013.

Since 1, 5, 10, or 50 is no longer circulated in the current Indonesian currency, you should find bank note issued in the past. Searching this type of old bank notes or coin is not really difficult in Jakarta. One of the places that you should search is in Passer Baroe. There are a lot of street vendor who sells old Indonesian bank notes and coins.

But still mostly the foreigners know more about the high value of antique rupiah than Indonesians, since they’ll already know what type of rupiah they’re searching for, including the denomination, the year it is issued, and the amount they need
