Jakarta International Airport: How do I get to my accommodation?

If you’re lucky to travel to our wonderful city of Jakarta for a vacation, there will be many questions that you’ll need answering before you start out on such a life-changing journey. One question that is regularly posed is: how do I get from the airport to my accommodation in the center of Jakarta?

Unfortunately, unlike many European cities, there isn’t a direct train line from Jakarta International Airport to the city center. Instead Trip Advisor suggest that you use something us locals call a DAMRI bus, which is extremely cost effective, while you’ll also get to see the inner workings of the city as the bus passes through many of its stops en route to the center.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Terminal 3

The DAMRI airport buses are available outside all the terminals at Soekarno Hatta. All passengers have to do is exit the terminals and wait for a bus – they operate every 15 minutes, 24-hours-a-day so the likelihood is you won’t have to wait too long for one. All the buses have free Wi-Fi, ideal for travelers who want to get in touch with family and friends to inform them of their safe arrival after a long flight.

Alternatively, you can get a taxi however, if you aren’t versed on where your accommodation is located or this is your first trip to Jakarta it’s highly recommended that you stick to the DAMRI airport buses as this is a regulated and trusted form of transport.

It’s a shame that there isn’t a train system in place, as this would undoubtedly make the trip to the center of Jakarta more practical and time efficient. Like aforementioned, leading European airports such as Heathrow have dedicated Express trains that take passengers directly to central London. If Soekarno Hatta had this option it would lessen the congestion around the airport considerably.
