Museum Perumusan Naskah Proklamasi

Museum Perumusan Naskah Proklamasi or the Museum of Independence Proclamation Drafting is located on Jl. Imam Bonjol No 1 Jakarta Pusat/Central Jakarta. This two level building was build in 1920s with Art Deco style. When the pasific war broke out, the building had been used by British Consul General until Japan occupied Indonesia.

In the time of Japanese occupation, the building, the building was the residence of Japanese Admiral, Tadashi Maeda. It remained his residence untill the Allies Forces landed in Indonesiea in September 1945. The building than used as British Royal Army Headquarter. From 1961 to 1981, it was leased by British Embassy then in 1982 the building was used by National Library office.

There are 4 historical room in this building that become the witness for Indonesian Independence. When we enter the Museum, on left side is the room when Admiral Maeda welcomed Soekarno, Hatta, and Ahmad Soebarjo after returned from Rengasdengklok.

Just next to the room when Admiral Maeda welcome Soekarno, Hatta, and Ahmad Soebarjo, the go straight and you will see the room where independence proclamation was formulated. At dawn around 3 am, Soekarno, Hatta, and Ahmad Soebarjo sat around the table to formulate the proclamation text. Soekarno wrote the text on a piece of paper while Hatta and Ahmad Soebarjo gave their thought orally

After they draft the proclamation text, the text was validated and was read by Soekarno in front of the people who were in this room. He read it slowly and asked for the agreement. The Soekarno asked Sayuti Melik to type the proclamation text.

Sayuti Melik typed the text in a small room under the stair, accompanied by BM Diah. In typing the text, Sayuti Melik changed three word, “Tempoh” into “tempo”, “Wakil – wakil bangsa Indonesia” into “Atas nama bangsa Indonesia” and the writing of day, month, and year.

The text then brought to the 3rd room and signed by Soekarno and Hatta on behalf on Indonesian people, then based on security factor, Soekarno announced that the reading of Proclamation text will be held in front of his house (Now become Tugu Petir) at 10.00.

In the backyard of the Museum, you will find an open space garden that also have a bunker from the World War II, you can enter and feel to stay inside the bunker.

From Gondangdia go to platform 2 and take the Red Line or Blue Line heading to Manggarai and change your route in Manggarai go to platform 2/5  then take the Yellow Line heading to Duri/Angke and stop at Sudirman Station and take a 15 minutes walk to the East

From Cikini go to platform 2 and take the Red Line or Blue Line heading to Manggarai and change your route in Manggarai go to platform 2/5  then take the Yellow Line heading to Duri/Angke and stop at Sudirman Station and take a 15 minutes walk to the East

From Tanah Abang go to platform 3/5 and take the Yellow Line heading to Manggarai and stop at Sudirman Station and take a 15 minutes walk to the East
