PT KAI reportedly had procured 18 used trains from Japan to increase Commuter Line services capacity by 20 percent. Currently, the commuter line makes 533 train trips per day, an increase from 514 last year. If the new train come and running in the later hal of this year, the train journey would increase to 699 train trip per day
Tri Wahyono, PT KCJ Director, said that the additional 180 carriages would arrive in several phases from July to December. PT KAI did not ordered the new ones since it would forced them to increase ticket fares to cover the expenses.
The company has invested in multiyear projects amounting to Rp 491 billion for the expansion of train facilities in Greater Jakarta, as well as Rp 56 billion for the construction of a railway connecting Jakarta to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The railways from Manggarai to SHIA is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
