Menara Syahbandar or Syahbandar Tower (Uitkijk) is located on Jl. Pasar Ikan, Jakarta Utara/North Jakarta. The tower  was built around 1839. The tower is actually a former bastion (tower of defense) Culemborg that was built in 1645. The tower serves as a monitoring tower for ships entering and leaving Batavia by sea and also served as Custom office on goods – goods unloaded in the port of Sunda Kelapa. The tower was also the tallest building in Batavia at that time. If you reach the top of the tower, you have to go through 77 steps. Do not forget to enjoy the observation spaces covers with timber decorated with red paint.

At the bottom of the tower, you may find a prison for the crew who are breaking the law and there was and information that there is an underground passage leading to the Jakarta History Museum, and also headed to Fort Frederik Hendrik (Istiqlal Mosque). For safety, the tunnel is closed.

Since the age of the building reaching 200 years old, it making the 12 feet tall with size 4×8 meters building, is slowly being tilted so often called “The Leaning Tower”.

From Juanda/Gondangdia /Cikini go to platform 1 and take the Red Line or Blue Line to Jakarta Kota. Go to the north exit and take a 21 minutes walk to the north

From Tanah Abang go to platform 3 and take the Yellow Line heading to Depok/Nambo/Bogor and stop at Manggarai go to platform 3/5 and take the Red Line or Blue Line to Jakarta Kota. Go to the north exit and take a 21 minutes walk to the north

From Sudirman go to platform 2 and take the Yellow Line heading to Depok/Nambo/Bogor and stop at Manggarai go to platform 3/5 and take the Red Line or Blue Line to Jakarta Kota. Go to the north exit and take a 21 minutes walk to the north
