Museum Tekstil Jakarta or Textile Musem of Jakarta is located on Jl. KS Tubun, No 2 – 4, West Jakarta/Jakarta Barat. Textile Museum was built in early 19th century, and has changed ownership several times. Originally as a villa owned by French citizen who live in Batavia, and bought by Abdul Aziz Al Musawi Alkatiri, a Turk Consul in Batavia. The sold to Dr. Karel Christian Crucg. Textile Museum was used also as the headquarter of the Civil Defense Force (BKR) in the struggle ti defend independence.

This building was inaugurated as textile museum on June 28, 1976 in Jakarta. Entering the museum you will see the display room to present all kind of Indonesian textile. The collection displayed not only own by museum itself but also from society, collectors, and designer collection. Display room is presented in opened room, to invite visitorto see and explore collection closely. The collection of the textile museum reach 1980 collection which has 786 batik collection, 709 woven collection, 325 mixed collection, 60 tools, and 100 contemporary textile.

Behind the main building you will see a 2000m2 garden and use as open air collection that show various kind of plant that can be use as natural dyes. You may also sit and enjoy the fresh air in the park.

Please not to forget to enter the textile learning center that present a collection of looms from various region and information about raw material, as well as the process of making Indonesian traditional textile. Visitor also have the opportunity to operate the loom.

Need to learn how to make Batik, just visit the museum workshop. The textile museum also provide training and course in traditional textile and batik making is one of the most favorite class. If you need to learn how to make batik of handkerchief, you only need to pay Rp. 35.000 (less than USD 5)  and to learn to make batik on fabric size 0.5 M x 1 M you only need to pay Rp.200.000/level (up to level 3) or less than USD 22.

The Museum also have the Batik Gallery featuring number of ancient batik and batik development. This gallery is an embryyonic National Batik Museum which managed by Yayasan Batik Indonesia (Indonesia Batik Foundation) in cooperation with the Textile Museum.

From Juanda / Gondangdia / Cikini go to platform 2 and take the Red Line/Blue Line heading to Bekasi/Depok/Bogor and stop at Manggarai Station. Go to platform 5 and take the Yellow Line heading to Jatinegara and stop at Tanah Abang Station. Take a 7 minutes walk to the southwest

From Sudirman go to platform 1 and take the Yellow Line heading to Jatinegara and stop at Tanah Abang Station. Take a 7 minutes walk to the southwest
