Yayasan Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Indonesia or Indonesia Legal Aid Foundation is located at Jl. Diponegoro No 74 Jakarta Pusat/Central Jakarta. YLBHI is the oldest legal aid organization in Indonesia. This organization was originally founded on the ideas presented by Adnan Buyung Nasution at the 3 rd Congress of Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADIN) in 1969. The idea presented by Buyung then approved by the Central Executive Board of PERADIN on October 26, 1970 and entered into force on October 28, 1970 with the name of the Legal Aid Institute / Public Defender Institute (LBH / LPU). After operating for 10 years, on March 13, 1980, LBH legal status was upgraded to the Foundation and changed its name to the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation.
Establishment LBH originally intended to provide legal aid to the poor. Gradually the organization was transformed into one of the key subjects for resistance to the New Order regime under Soeharto Administration. In this context, then Legal Aid Foundation developed the Legal Aid Structural concept, this concept based on the efforts to promote the establishment of the rule of law that ensures social justice by engaging the client to participate in solving the problem themselves, organize themselves and eventually be self-supporting and no longer depends on the lawyer. Until now Indonesia Legal Aid Foundation has grown and has 15 branches and 7 posts scattered from Banda Aceh to Papua.
