Museum Husni Thamrin: Remembering the Betawi Hero


Museum Husni Thamrin or Husni Thamrin Museum is located on Jl. Kenari II No. 15, Jakarta Pusat/Central Jakarta. This Museum was once is owned by one of the prominent heroes of Batavia and Indonesia’s; Mohammad Husni Thamrin. For this Batavia hero short biography please see the Statue Husni Thamrin.

Entering the beginning of the 20th century, the colonial government developed infrastructures in Batavia city by constructing buildings for residential, office, and community service, including the building that was later purchased by Mohammad Husni Thamrin. Husni Thamrin then donated the house to the activities of Indonesian national movement. This building then became the Secretariat for the of the Association of the Nationalists Movement of Indonesia or the PPPKI, the building then  called as the Consensus Building (Gedung Permufakatan).

In this place, many meetings were conducted by nationalists movements, youth congress, theatrical performances, courses. The leaders of the movement of Indonesia have always utilized this building for designing the struggle for Indonesian independence. Therefore, this building has a very big role in upholding the spirit of the struggle against the colonialism, especially after the non cooperative nationalists movement leaders arrested in Indonesia.

The museum is havea variety of photo reproductions of the struggle Husni Thamrin and other historical collection. In addition to that, the Museum also has audio visual facilities that can be used to watch movies of the history of the struggle of Indonesia. The museum also has spacious conference rooms / halls with air-conditioned that can be used for seminars, workshops, discussions, with a capacity for 250 person. In addition, the front park of this beautiful museum is well worth used for park receptions, fairs, and art performances.

From Juanda/Gondangdia go to platform 2 and take the Red Line or Blue Line heading to Bekasi/Depok/Bogor and stop at Cikini and take a 20 minutes walk to the Northeast

From Tanah Abang go to platform 3 and take the Yellow Line heading to Depok/Nambo/Bogor and stop at Manggarai, go to platform 3/5 and take the Red Line or Blue Line heading to Jakarta Kota and stop at Cikini and take a 20 minutes walk to the Northeast

From Sudirman go to platform 2 and take the Yellow Line heading to Depok/Nambo/Bogor and stop at Manggarai, go to platform 3/5 and take the Red Line or Blue Line heading to Jakarta Kota and stop at Cikini and take a 20 minutes walk to the Northeast
