Jakarta to operate Monorail in 2015 and 2017


The Ministry of State Enterprise recently announce its plan to build the monorail system for Jakarta. The ministry also annouce that they already formed a consortium to build this The 9 trillion-rupiah ($927 million) monorail project. The consortium are PT Adhi Karya Tbk (ADHI), PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA), PT Lembaga Elektronika Negara (LEN), PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), dan PT Jasa Marga Tbk (JSMR).

The ministry hopes that by building the monorail that linking Jakarta and surrounding areas will expand the economic growth and will be very beneficial for all as it will save on fuel. The monorail project will also reduce traffic congestion problems. Once completed, the monorail will carry as many as 191,600 passengers/day, and it will save 573,000 liters of fuel/day. This will save at least 1.5 trillion rupiah each year.

The line will stretch 52.126 kilometers (33.6 miles) and the route will be built from Bekasi Timur – Cawang, Cibubur – Cawang, and Cawang Kuningan. The monorail will also be integrated with the Commuter Train and the TransJakarta.  In the early years of operation, the ticket price for Bekasi Timur – Cawang Line will set at Rp. 15.000,  Cawang – Cibubur Line will set at Rp. 15.000 and, Cawang – Kuningan Line will set at Rp. 10.000. The ticket price will go up 10% every two years.

As for Monorail that operating in Jakarta, it will be handled by PT Jakarta Monorail. PT Jakarta Monorail will build Blue Line that stretch for 30 km and the Green Line that strecth for 14.5 km. Blue Line will be serving Kampung Melayu – Tebet – Kuningan – Casablanca – Tanah Abang – Roxy – Taman Anggrek with the addition to Pondok Kelapa – Sentral Timur Jakarta and from Puri Indah. While the Green Line will serving Kuningan – Kuningan Sentral – Gatot Subroto – Senayan – Asia Afrika – Pejompongan – Karet – Dukuh Atas – Kuningan

For the development of this monorail, PT Jakarta Monorail will form a new consortium with the firm owned by former Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Hadji Kalla Group and is expected to be operational in 2015
