Early 2014, Commuter Train to SHIA expected to operate


Railway construction plan from Manggarai Station to SHIA Station is continues, PT KAI is currently making detailed design and feasibility study of the project. Sugeng Priyono, VP Public Relations of PT KAI, said that if the feasibility study results are approved then construction can begin this year. The construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2013 and started operating in early 2014.

Sugeng Priyono stated that the length of the airport railways is 45 Km and will operate through the Manggarai, Sudirman, Tanah Abang, Angke, Pluit, and SHIA Station, and another route will going through the Tanah Tinggi, Tangerang. The estimated travel time between SHIA Station to Manggarai Station is 70 minutes.

With the development of the railways frim Manggarai to SHIA is expected to solve the problem of transportation in Jakarta and Tangerang. The commuter train railways to the airport as a solution because of the increase of vehicles in the next three years is expected to exceed the capacity of the highway and seriously affect accessibility to the airport.

PT Angkasa Pura II, the operator of the Soekarno Hatta International Airport, is currently preparing a tender to build a commuter train station between Terminal I and Terminal II, this integrated building is also equipped with a shopping mall. At 1977, SHIA was designed to accommodate 22 million passengers per year. But this time SHIA is visited by 51 million passengers per year
