Parliament building complex located in Senayan was originally designated for the Conference of the New Emerging Forces (Conefo) in 1966. Conefo is an international conference of the number of participating countries in the Asian-African Conference in 1955 that supports the idea of establishing a new world order. The members planned to consist of the countries from Asia, Africa, Latin America, the socialist countries, communist countries and all progressive forces in the capitalist world. This project is a groundbreaking move that is certain to deal directly with the United Nations.
To support the development the Conefo building, on March 8, 1965 President Sukarno issued Presidential Decree No. 48/1965 that assigned the Minister of Public Works and Energy (PUT) to carry out development political venues projects in Jakarta. President Soekarno hope this Conefo building is more magnificent than the UN headquarters in New York and nicer than the People Palace in Beijing, and must be completed prior to August 17, 1966.
Preparation of the construction of Conefo Building projects began in early March 1965. The first pole erection done on 19 April 1965 to coincide with the celebration of the 10 years of the Asia-Africa Conference and was attended by several heads of friendly states. Building construction Conefo run into difficulty because the September Movement. General Suharto on 9 November 1966 decided to change the designation of this building to the MPR / DPR (People Consultative Assembly / People Representative Council)
The MPR/DPR complex is currently consists of the Main Building (Nusantara) shaped dome, Nusantara I or Lokawirasabha with 24 floors, Nusantara II, Nusantara III, Nusantara IV and the Nusantara V. In the middle of the of the complex there is a water fountain and “Electric Element”. The building also stands a Secretariat General and a mosque. After the amendment the Constitution of 1945, the complex DPR / MPR has established a new building for the office of the Regional Representative Council (DPD).
