Jakarta is a city with the densest population of Southeast Asia. Jakarta even earned the nickname as the Big Durian. As the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta offers a wide range of interesting options and destinations. Of course, Bali remains the most attractive destination for many people. But for some people, Jakarta offers a variety of interesting experiences unattainable in Bali.
There are many important things when you intend to visit Jakarta on a budget. Here are some tips for you.
Once you arrive at Soekarno Hatta International Airport, you can use the shuttle DAMRI bus to get to Gambir Station. If you dare try to use the commuter train, please visit this page. SHIA is expected to have commuter train to go to the center of Jakarta soon.
If you want to stay in a budget hostel, maybe you ever heard the famous Jalan Jaksa. Jalan Jaksa is quite near from Gambir Station, it is only like 14 minutes walk to the south. There are a lot of budget hostel at Jalan Jaksa, you can find many cafes and bars also in Jalan Jaksa. Other alternative also avaliable for your budget accomodation, my advice take the hotel and hostel near the Commuter Train station.
Be money wise, it is better to buy alcohol on a convenience store than on a bars or cafe. Do not forget to bring your own snacks, it is good help fight off hunger cravings in between meals. Always do and think about walks and take the train, rather to get a cab. Between the mileage cost, tipping, and of course the added secret tourist fee. Walking a little extra is good for your body, environment and also your wallet.
Please be remember the Jakarta is quite hot and humid, bring a comfortable shirt and small towel to take a travel within Jakarta. The other things is also, the best day to travel within Greater Jakarta is absolutely not on Monday and Friday. In Monday, all the museums are close. What about Friday? Err, i just feel that it is not a good day to travel 😀
There are a lot of things to see in Jakarta, my experience it takes more than 3 days to travel to many impressive destination accros Greater Jakarta or Jakarta and it’s neighbourhood city. The easiest way to travel in Jakarta is using the Commuter Train services. Before you use the commuter train services, please take a look at this few tips.
Plan your trip is always number one on your check list, my advice is the first trip to Jakarta is to go to the northern part of Jakarta or visiting the Old City of Jakarta.
