Joko Widodo, Jakarta Governor, inaugurated the construction project of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) at the Hotel Indonesia (HI), Thursday, May 2, 2013. This inauguration marks the start of construction of a rail-based mass transport which capable of carrying up to 412 thousand passengers per day. At the inauguration, Joko Widodo, Jakarta Governor announced the winner of the tender to build the MRT project. Jakarta Governor then shows the design of the underground MRT station. The project is expected to be completed in 2017.
The construction phase 1 of the project is 5.9 km, from a total of 15.7 km long. The first phase will be done in three packages. Package one and two will be undertaken by a joint consortium of Japanese companies and State-owned enterprises (SOEs), which areObayashi Shimizu, Wijaya Karya, and Jaya Construction Joint Venture. While Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Company (SMCC) and Hutama Karya Joint Operation is chosen for the remainder of the package.
