SMUN 19 Jakarta or State High School is located on Jl. Perniagaan No. 31, Jakarta. The high school is an important and historical building in Jakarta. In this place on 17 March 1900, some prominent people of the Chinese community gather and founded the first and modern Chinese organization in Dutch East Indies, Tiong Hoa Hwee Koan (THHK). This THHK inspire the forming of Budi Utomo on 20 May 1908.
Tiong Hoa Hwee Koan or Chinese Congregation House is an organization that aims to encourage Chinese people who lived in the Dutch East Indies to recognize its identity through the dissemination of the Kong Hu Cu teachings
In 1901, THHK establish Chinese school called Tiong Hoa Hak Tong. This school was the first modern private school in the Dutch East Indies. The most famous THHK school was THHK Batavia (Pa Hua) and THHK Tegal. THHK also pioneered the application of the term “Tiong Hoa ” refers to a community of Chinese community in Dutch East Indies. In 1928, Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies officially recognized the term “Tong Hoa” and “Tiongkok” for various official requirements.
Pa Hua’s school did not know the grade levels, and all ages can be mixed. The student who comes from Chinese and native was taught algebra, arithmetic, customs, and Chinese culture. Since the occurrence of the PKI rebellion in 1965, THHK considered as affiliated to Baperki, then on 6 April 1966 the school was taken over by the New Order government and renamed to SMU Negeri 19 Jakarta
