Jakarta weekend lifestyle is a mall lifestyle. The current Governor of Jakarta is trying to shift some of the activity outdoors. Governor Joko Widodo said that Jakarta will have saturday night market in the next three month. The night market will be open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will be hold along Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan not far from the National Monument
Jakarta administration has allocated up to Rp 760 million for the planned event. The Governor also hope that the night market will like night markets in Moscow, Singapore and Taiwan, and can to attract tourists
The city will involve 200 selected vendors to sell their products or dishes during the event. Jakarta administration would prioritize local businesses that created unique products. He also said that the street will be divided into two areas, creative and culinary. There will be an entertainment stage in the center.
Each vendor selected to sell their product at the night market will only have to pay Rp 5,000 (48 US cents) in sanitary fees and an additional Rp 50,000 to rent a booth, while those who do not need a booth will only need to pay an extra Rp 15,000. The vendors will be rotating in and out for every six months
This planned night market will become social capital to build Jakarta since they will boost social interaction among residents and providing destination options other than malls.
