National Monument (Monas), the landmark of Jakarta, is closed to the public from 18 October to to Dec. 15 to replace the 10-year-old elevator. The elevator is used by visitor to reach the top of the monument to have a sky high view of the city

Rini Handayani, Director of Monas Management said the elevator had been used an average 160 times a day and has carried 4.36 million visitors since it was installed on 2003. The new elevator is needed to guarantee the safety of Monas visitors.

Jakarta administration has allocate Rp 4 billion (US$352,000) from the 2013 city budget to fund the project. Event the elevator is closed to public but the other facilities is still open such as the Museum
