Cisadane river or simply called Ci Sadane is one of the major rivers in Java which the sourced from Mount Pangrango in Bogor. With an overall length of about 126 km, Ci Sadane has been witness to the history of the existence of the Tangerang . In the 16th century, Tangerang had became one of the busy port on the banks of this river, then eventually defeated by the development of Banten and Batavia .

Ci Sadane prowess for the city of Tangerang arguably has a sacred value, because the history of Tangerang is reflected from the river. It is said that the river used to be the border between the Sultanate of Banten and Batavia which were under VOC administration. Tangerang supposedly originated from term Tangeran that has meaning signs . Tangeran is a monument marking territory of the Sultanate of Banten and VOC, at that time. Tangeran word changed to Tangerang due to dialect influenced by VOC soldiers.

While the term of Benteng was referring to the Fortress built by VOC around the city in the past in order to ward off invasion from the Sultanate of Banten which is often done through Ci Sadane .

On the edge of Ci Sadane , we can just sit and enjoy the beauty of the evening , there are several parks and children’s playground that was built on the river side . On the banks of this river, we can also see many activities of Tangerang residents who depend on the existence of this river.
