Boen Tek Bio temple is known as the oldest temple in Tangerang, which have been outstanding for more than three centuries. It was assumed that Boen Tek Bio Temple built around the 1684.
The existence of Boen Tek Bio Temple is inseparable from the history of the arrival of the Chinese in Tangerang which occurred in the 15th century. In 1407, as noted in the history books titled Tina Sunda Layang Parahyang ( Note from Parahyangan ), Tjen Tjie Lung (Halung) carrying seven families with nine girls , were stranded in the area now known as Kampung Teluk Naga . Their goal originally was to go to Jayakarta.
To honor their ancestor, Chinese people who lived in the region then raise funds to erect a temple named Boen Tek Bio ( Boen = Literature Tek = Virtue and Bio = Places of Worship ) .
At the first time, this temple was established only in the form of bamboo poles and thatched. Due to increasing trade in Tangerang and visitors who worship in this temple were increasing, in 1844 the temple was undergoing renovation by bringing in an expert from China so that changes shape as you can see now .
Bon Tek Bio temple is located on Jl . Bhakti No. 14 , Tangerang
