The history of the Chinese people in Indonesia has been traceable back in the presence of the Chinese fleet led by Admiral Cheng Ho. In Tangerang, the ancestors of Chinese people landed in the Naga Bay and then proceeded to Cisadane river and start building the city of Tangerang .
One of the witnesses of Chinese people contribution to the development of Tangerang is the Dermaga Tangga Jamban. In this place there were discovered the Inscription of Tangga Jamban. The Small dock that also has a pagoda was originally used as a landing place for people who use the river as a medium for transportation.
The name itself derived from the fact that it was used as public toilet facilities by residents of Tangerang. While the inscription is newly discovered after revitalization of Cisadane river and fortunately there is a citizen who rescue the inscription. Inscription with ancient Chinese alphabet contain information of 81 Chinese people who collect money of 18 156 Toen to make the 30 road and boat. The original written of the inscription as follows
“ini adalah lisjt dari sekoempoelan itoe orang-orang boediman berdjoemlah 81 orang jang soedah boleh melakoekan soeatoe perboewatan moelia oentoek mendoekoeng itoe oesaha dari sarikat Boen Tek Bio mengoempoelkan oeang sebesar 18.156 Toen (ringgit Belanda) oentoek melakoekan pemboeatan 30 (tiga poeloeh) boeah djalan dan joega bikin peraoe dan laennja. Batoe parengatan ini ditoeliskan pada taon kesebelas sewaktoe pemerentahan Kaisar Thong Tjie (masehi 1873).”
