Museum Antara or the official name used is Galeri Foto dan Jurnalistik Antara (Antara Journalism and Photo Gallery) is located on Jl . Antara No 59, Pasar Baru. You can get in without having to purchase any tickets. This two-story building is an important place in the Indonesian independence, since at this place the the Declaration of Independence was broadcast throughout the world.

Originally this building was owned Aneta News Agency (Algemeen Nieuws – en Telegraaf – Agentschap), a Dutch East Indies government -owned news agency. The idea to set up Antara news agency arising from thinking Albert Manoempak Sipahoetar, Adam Malik, R.M. Soemanang Soeriowinoto, dan Pandu Kartawigoena. They were not satisfied with the news about the events in the Dutch East Indies on the socio-political life of the Indonesian people released by Aneta. The Indonesian national movement, both in the Netherlands East Indies and in Europe, was always considers Aneta was publishing many biased news. Aneta often did not preach political events that occurred in Indonesia society. These four men then established Antara on 13th December 1937.

During the Japanese occupation, Aneta News Agency was closed and the military government then installed Domei News Agency. Antara was allowed to operate on the first floor, while the upper floor is used by Domei News Agency. On 29th May 29 1942, Antara News Agency was forbid to use the name of Antara, and replace with the new name – Yashima.

At the time the Declaration of Independence, Domei News Agency was the only foreign news agency that broadcasts the Indonesian Independence declaration. The Indonesian journalist who work in Domei News Agency, insert the news of Indonesia independence between other news.

Currently, the building the first floor is served as Photo Gallery and the Gallery Café, while the second floor is used as a museum. The museum displays a variety of stories about the history of Antara and also diplays many itemis used by Antara such as typewriter, fax machine, and also an old bicycle

From Sudirman go to platform 2 and take the Yellow Line heading to Depok/Nambo/Bogor and stop at Manggarai. Go to platform 3/5 and  take Red Line or Blue Line heading to Jakarta Kota and stop at Juanda. Take a 9 minutes walk to the East
