Pempek is a special food from Palembang, South Sumatra. The food is made from fish and sago. When serving Pempek Palembang, it is always accompanied with a bowl of spicy dark brown sauce which is called cuko or vinegar.
According to the local history, Pempek has been served since the influx of Chinese nomads to Palembang in the 16th century, when Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate is in power. The name empek – empek or pempek is believed originated from the term “apek”, that is a reference to the old Chinese man.
In Jakarta, there are many restaurants or individual sellers that sells Pempek is easy to find, one of them can be found at Toko Tiga area near Asemka Market. The Restaurant Eirin 10 Ulu is sell Pempek Palembang and many variety of crackers from South Sumatera. Eirin 10 Ulu Restaurant is located at Jl . Pintu Kecil No. 3, Jakarta Barat
There are pretty much pempek variants sold in the restaurant, among aothers are Pempek Telor, Lenjer , Keriting , Kulit, Adaan, and Lenggang . For those who like hot soup may try the delicious tekwan. They are not only selling a variety of Pempek variants, but also sells Mie Tahu and Otak – Otak.
The delicious taste of Pempek mixed with vinegar is very tempting. The restaurant capacity is about 20 persons. If it is a lot of people inside, you should be in the waiting list. You have nothing to lose to enjoy Pempek here though you should wait in the waiting list
