Nasi Uduk or Coconut steam rice is one of the favorite foods of the Jakarta resident, mainly because it’s both affordable and It can be found throughout the day. Nasi uduk literally means “mixed rice” related with term aduk (“mix”). The name describes the dish preparation itself which requires more ingredients than common steamed rice cooking and also varieties of additional side dishes. Principally, Nasi uduk is made by cooking rice soaked in coconut milk instead of water, along with clove, cassia bark, and lemongrass to add aroma.
One of the legendary Nasi Uduk restaurants in Jakarta is the Nasi Uduk Gondangdia. Located in Jalan Cikini 4 No 8, Menteng, Central Jakarta, this legendary restaurant is established in 1993. Step in to the restaurant you’ll find window display for your side dishes for companion such as chicken, duck, squid, bean cake, fish, fried beef. All you need to do is pick whatever you like and the waiter will heat it up if necessary. The Nasi Uduk came in cone shape in banana leaf to keep its flavor.
If you like, you can add the hot sauces that are available on every table. The famous one is the sambal bajak, because it will give you burn sensation in your mouth
